Welcome to my new blog!
I was thinking, since I live here in Russia and I'm going to be experiencing some wild things, I'm going to need a place to tell all about them - a place where my friends and family far away can catch up on what I've been doing. Might as well get started now...
I arrived in Russia on the 11th of June, 2006. The first thing I saw was the airport. It was a nice looking place, but it was hard to decipher anything because, at the time, I only knew how to say (note: I couldn't read Russian) "hello", "goodbye", and "thank you." My dad came to pick us up at the airport after we got off the plane. The next day, we went to Red Square and saw the front of St. Basil's Cathedral and the Kremlin wall. My mom was having a bit of jet lag so she doesn't remember much from that day! Red Square was amazing because I had never seen anything like St. Basil's Cathedral with all of the many differently designed domes! The Kremlin wall is a massive structure of red brick with towers on the ends. On one tower there is a clock by which all Russians set their watches and clocks.
A few weeks later, I went back with my mom for a tour of the Kremlin! We went in the armory and the Church of the Assumption - only one of the three churches in the Kremlin, but I don't know the names of the others. When you think of the word "armory" what do you think of? Naturally, you would think of weapons, but in this armory, there was only one small part where there were weapons. It was more like a museum than an armory. There were bibles that were given to the church by Catherine the Great that were covered in diamonds and other jewels! Plus, there were other gifts to Russia and the church from leaders of other countries.
I need to cut this short for now, but I'll get back soon, because I have a lot more to tell you!
Later!
